"If At Once"
If at once it came to pass
that all I am was free at last
to be confined in time no more
my conciousness an open door
flowing through the universe
free at last
with this rebirth
Preston Purser 2009
"I started out painting land and seascapes, I knew this was not was I was supposed to paint. I wanted people to think about what they were seeing- when you look at a landscape, the painting tells you what you are looking at. I want to challenge the viewer's mind and to release what was inside of myself. Painting, though I enjoy it is not a joyful experience for me, it is a necessary relief. If I am thinking about a painting, I won't paint; it needs to flow, no conscious thought process, just intuitive and inspired energy, movement and emotion. A release of the soul. I desire every viewer to have a personal experience with every painting. Two different people have two different experiences with the same piece of work. That is the beauty of abstract art, the blending of color and energy to create something spontaneous and pure." ********
Preston's paintings are confronting and emotional. Some of the paintings' themes are dark, some very energetic, some meditative and peaceful.
Preston sees and many others see things in his paintings that are unexpected. Preston's art is alligorical. It can be interpreted as inspirational and meditative, and at times as scary and disturbing. Preston believes the energy and entities that appear in the paintings are there through universal collaboration. Faces, totem animals, demons, soul expressions... his paintings are meant as reflections, insights, confrontations and inspirations.
